WWE: NXT Results | July 29th 2020

After watching one of his closest frenemies get destroyed by Karrion Kross last week, how will Keith Lee respond?

The show opened with a video that showed the relationship between Keith Lee and Dominik Dijakovic. Then the video went into what happened last week involving Karrion Kross.

After the video, we got the entrance of NXT Women’s Champion, Io Shirai. It looked like we would be starting with a match right away.

Upon Shirai’s entrance, Dakota Kai once again attacked her. This led to Tegan Nox coming out to try and help Shirai, but Candice LeRae made her way to ringside to get involved. The referee eventually was able to find a way to gain control of the situation and the bell rung for the tag match.

Io Shirai and Tegan Nox defeated Candice LeRae and Dakota Kai via Pinfall (Moonsault)

Once the match got underway, it was a competitive tag team match. Of course this should have been expected given how much history is between all of them. Shirai took out Kai towards the end of the match, this left Kai on the outside. This led to Kai abandoning LeRae.

A video was then shown of Adam Cole on the Pat McAfee show. We saw the outburst that occurred and then saw Triple H’s appearance on the show. Apparently they will be figuring out a time for McAfee and Cole to hash out their issues.

Returning from commercial, we saw a recap of Bronson Reed’s victory over Johnny Gargano and Roderick Strong from last week. Then we saw tweets that Gargano and Strong had been sending to each other in the last week. This Twitter beef has led to William Regal making a match between the two for tonight.

Johnny Gargano defeated Roderick Strong via Pinfall (One Final Beat DDT)

As commentary said, this could have been a TakeOver caliber match and in a way it was. Anytime Strong and Gargano are in the ring it seems the WWE Universe are in for a good match. Both men needed a victory to get back on track and Gargano found a way to do that. While the match was competitive, Gargano threw Strong into the barricades shoulder first a few times. Once he got Strong back in the ring, that was all he needed to set up for One Final Beat.

Backstage McKenzie Mitchell interviewed Dakota Kai. Kai had said she was tired of being a team player. She is also tired of having to jump through hoops to become the number one contender. She wants Io Shirai and the NXT Women’s Championship.

Rhea Ripley happened to be backstage and interrupted the interview. She doesn’t care that Kai is not a team player anymore, she actually gave her kudos for that. What Ripley cared about was Kai saying she was next in line for an opportunity at Io, Ripley said Io is hers.

Kai left saying she’d see what William Regal thought about that. To another commercial break we went.

We came back from break to another McKenzie Mitchell interview. This time she was talking to Timothy Thatcher about the triple threat match. Thatcher said Finn Balor and Dexter Lumis would get schooled in Thatch As Thatch Can. While Thachter was talking about what he would be doing in the match, Dexter Lumis appeared in the background.

After the interview, cameras took us to the Undisputed Era. Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, and Roderick Strong were discussing the loosing streak they have been on. Kyle O’Reilly appeared and gave a pretty passionate pep talk to the boys. O’Reilly tried to get them to remember who they are. He seemed successful when Cole said he was right and they all walked away a bit more confident.

Mercedes Martinez defeated Shotzi Blackheart via Pinfall

In her first match after officially joining the Robert Stone Brand, Martinez was agressive as ever. While Blackheat surprised Martinez in the beginning of the match, there was no stopping Martinez in getting the victory here. A German Suplex from the top rope helped get the victory.

After a commerical, a promo video introducing us to Ridge Holland. Holland will be debuting next week and is coming for the North American Championship.

Back at ringside, we got the entrance of NXT Champion Keith Lee. Immediately you could tell Lee was not in a good mood. Lee said that Dominik Dijak will be just fine.

He then addressed Karrion Kross. Lee said Kross has done so much extra bullshit to get his attention and that bullshit means nothing if he can’t face Lee like a man. He then proceeded to call Kross out, but instead got Cameron Grimes.

Grimes said Lee shouldn’t be upset, but in reality Grimes should! Lee gave away the North American Championship before Grimes could take it and the NXT Championship. A very angry Lee had his back to Grimes the whole time, but took very little time in destroying Grimes.

Then the lights went out and Scarlett appeared. Grimes took this as an opportunity to sneak attack Lee, but received a Spirit Bomb for his troubles. Then Karrion Kross appeared on the tron. Kross asked what kind of man stands by and watches his friend get hurt.

Kross then laid out choices for Lee – a NXT Championship opportunity or watching more people suffer. The NXT Champion said to pick the time and place.

Returning from another commercial break, we got a hype video for the triple threat match featuring Timothy Thatcher, Finn Balor, and Dexter Lumis.

Imperium defeated Ever Rise via Pinfall (European Bomb)

It has been quite some time since we have seen the NXT Tag Team Champions, but they put on a dominate performance. Their tag team work was on full display. Ever Rise was able to get a bit of offense in, but Imperium just took over.

After the match, Marcel Barthel got a mic. Unfortunately for Barthel, he did not get a chance to speak as he was interrupted by Undisputed Era. All four members of UE rushed to the ring and began their attack on the tag team champions. Adam Cole claimed they run NXT after they took out Imperium.

A video of Bronson Reed was shown. We got to learn a little bit more of the Thicc Boi. Reed said that his wrestling journey had began with his wife’s encouragement. He said he has made his opportunity happen last week and plans to capitalize on that. At TakeOver 30, the Thicc Boi dream comes true.

We heard from William Regal regarding Keith Lee and Karrion Kross. He said he would not be bullied into making championship matches. In Regal’s NXT, championship matches are earned.

Isaiah Swerve Scott defeated Jake Atlas via Pinfall (JML Driver)

During Atlas’s entrance we saw a promo by him. Atlas had said he is back from injury and wanted to get back on track.

The match was entertaining and both men trying to one up the other. Atlas looked great in his return, but Swerve’s confidence seemed to be unmatched. Each competitor had a few pin attempts, but Swerve put offense together to get the win.

Damian Priest was interviewed backstage about his upcoming match next week. Priest will be in a triple threat match next week against Oney Lorcan and Ridge Holland. Priest isn’t looking past the match, but he is ready for smooth sailing to infamy on the way to TakeOver.

After a commercial, we found out next week Dakota Kai will take on Rhea Ripley to determine the number one contender to Io Shirai. Also next week Imperium will defend their NXT Tag Team Championships against the Undisputed Era.

Dexter Lumis defeated Timothy Thatcher and Finn Balor via Submission (Silence)

So far in the matches to determine who will go to the ladder match at TakeOver have been upsets. It seemed Thatcher would be on his way to the ladder match, as he had a leg lock on Balor. Lumis though got back in the ring and locked in his finisher on Thatcher causing him to pass out.

That’s the show folks!
