WWE NXT Results – May 27, 2020

Paige Brearley runs down the results from tonight’s episode of WWE NXT.

Matt Riddle and Timothy Thatcher take their rivalry to the cage in this week’s episode of NXT.

We opened the show with Cruiserweight Tournament action.

Drake Maverick defeated Kushida and Jake Atlas via Pinfall

By any means necessary folks. Drake Maverick has kept his hopes of becoming Cruiserweight Champion alive. Although Kushida had the arm breaker in on Atlas, Maverick was able to crawl over and cover Atlas for the victory.

After the match Fantasma came out to congratulate Maverick in a sign of good sportsmanship.

Coming back from a commercial we see WWE Hall of Farmer, Kurt Angle going over the instructions with Timothy Thatcher for the upcoming cage match. Then a recap of what occurred before the commercial was shown. Atlas tapped to Kushida, but the referee’s decision of Maverick being the victor, stands.

Then we get the entrance of Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae. The crowd doesn’t seem thrilled to see them. Gargano announced that he would be having a Gargano Invitational, where he will face a young up and comer. That opponent happened to be Adrian Alanis.

Beth Phoenix gives us a little background on Alanis and then the match began.

Johnny Gargano defeated Adrian Alanis via Submission (Garga-No Escape)

A quick match, that saw Gargano completely takeover.

After the match, a picture of Mia Yim kicking Gargano is shown on the tron. It happened to be the beginning of dinner with Mia Yim and Keith Lee. During their dinner, they did things similar to how LeRae and Gargano have in previous weeks.

Yim talked about how their flower centerpiece was like the Garganos, cheap and artificial. All of a sudden she pulled out a flashlight and gave a “dark” promo similar to how the Garganos have. Yim said that despite being in NXT for years, LeRae hasn’t won a title and is content living in the shadows. All while this is happening, LeRae and Gargano are livid in the ring.

When Yim tried to get Lee to cut a promo, he refuses….well at first. He finally grabs the flashlight and said that Gargano is the same size as his action figure. Although no one asked for him too, Gargano carries the flag for NXT. Shortly after Lee’s promo, Mia and Lee agree that the Garganos made a mistake speaking their names.

Tegan Nox then dropped off a pizza, from Gargano Pizza for Lee and Yim to eat. Except there is one slice left, which isn’t awesome news to Lee. Being more serious, Lee said there are consequences coming for Gargano attempting to put his hands on Yim. “Instead of the Gargano way, we will make you pay.”

Drake Maverick is interviewed by McKenzie Mitchell on the controversy that occurred in his match earlier. Maverick said he came into the tournament wanting to compete fairly. He suggested trying to make it right, have another match etc. Kushida then interrupted. He told Maverick to go fight for the title and his job.

As Kushida went to leave, Maverick told him when he wins the title, he wants Kushida to have the first shot. Then Maverick gets to celebrate making it to the finals a bit.

Back from a commercial we hear from the new NXT Tag Team Champions, Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner. Imperium have officially taken over and say the tag titles aren’t coming off their shoulders; just like the UK Title isn’t leaving WALTER’s. They then called out Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan and said they were a disgrace to their respective countries.

Raquel Gonzalez defeated Shotzi Blackheart via Pinfall

Not even the help of Tegan Nox at ringside and a rather scary coffin drop could help Blackheart win this one. Unfortunately Candice LeRae decided to confront Tegan Nox about her involvement in the Yim/Lee video during the match. Blackheart had been staging a comeback, but because the ref was dealing with Nox and LeRae, it opened the opportunity for Dakota Kai to interfere.

A video is shown for the upcoming match between Finn Balor and Damian Priest at NXT TakeOver:In Your House.

Back from commercial we got the entrances of Io Shirai, Rhea Ripley, and Charlotte Flair. When it comes to finding out who Charlotte Flair’s tag team partner will be, Chelsea Green’s music hits. It will be Ripley and Shirai versus Flair and Green.

Charlotte Flair and Chelsea Green defeated Io Shirai and Rhea Ripley via Pinfall

After saving her partner, Shirai then had a miscommunication with Ripley. She knocked Ripley off the apron into the barricade. This led to the Queen taking over and using the ropes to gain the victory.

Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae were interviewed by McKenzie Mitchell. The Garganos didn’t feel she was doing a good job of being impartial. LeRae let Mia Yim know she’d see her next week and before leaving told Tegan Nox, she should be ashamed of herself.

Before going to commercial, we find out William Regal and Adam Cole will be meeting for a negotiation session.

When we got back from commercial, Tom Phillips brought us to a Zoom call with Regal and Cole. Cole is not happy about his celebration getting cancelled. Regal doesn’t seem thrilled about chatting with Cole, so the NXT Champion gets to his point.

Cole began by saying he wanted the Undisputed Era to get a fair shot at the NXT Tag Team Championships and he doesn’t want Velveteen Dream to get another shot at the NXT Title. Regal isn’t amused and tells Cole that it’s always about him, but what about what he wants?

Regal said that Dream does deserve another chance at the NXT Title and it will most likely happen at In Your House. Regal even made a BAY BAY joke, it was pretty great. Negotiations end with both men agreeing to the NXT Title match at In Your House and Regal agreeing that if Dream loses, he won’t get another chance as long as Cole is champion. Oh and the match will take place somewhere deserving of the spotlight.

We get a video package from Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan. They gave insight into how their team came about. Then they meet up at a bar and agreed to take the NXT Tag Team titles from Imperium.

Tommaso Ciampa defeated Leon Ruff via Pinfall (Fairy Tale Ending)

As Ciampa made his entrance to the ring, Scarlett followed closely behind. Leon Ruff tried to take advantage of Ciampa being distracted, but it didn’t last long. Ciampa locked eyes with Scarlett and even blew her a kiss, as he got the victory.

After the match, Karrion Kross made his presence known, at least on the tron. Kross validates a few things Ciampa said last week. He then said on June 7th, he is going to make Ciampa feel things he like never before. Tick Tock.

Upon returning from commercial, we get a recap of the decline of Matt Riddle and Timothy Thatcher’s tag team. Then in the ring we saw Kurt Angle.

We got a good look at the NXT Fight Pit and it is wild.

Timothy Thatcher defeated Matt Riddle via Technical Submission

This was insane. Thatcher lost teeth and was bloody, but still got the victory. Riddle hit the Floating Bro on to Thatcher off the platform, but things changed in the match after that. Thatcher held in the submission and made Bro go to sleep.

We end NXT with Thatcher celebrating his victory and Bro in the ring disappointed.
