WWE: NXT ‘Vengeance’ Day | February 14th 2021: Heart-Shaped Box

It’s a historic night for NXT as we crown the first-ever winners of the Women’s Dusty Classic! Finn Balor will also face Pete Dunne for the first time.

We began NXT TakeOver with a rap from Josiah Williams. It was fantastic.

Then at ringside Wade Barrett, Vic Joesph, and Beth Phoenix getting us hyped for the show. Joesph told us we were going to start the show making history. Then Dakota Kai’s music hit.

Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai defeated Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon via Pinfall

The women put on a hell of an opening match. Moon and Blackheart are a really fun team to watch. They were able to ground Gonzalez and actually get a pin attempt. Gonzalez and Kai though utilized their experience as a tag team and will now go on to get a Women’s Tag Team Championship opportunity.

After the trophy presentation we saw a video featuring Johnny Gargano and Kushida.

Johnny Gargano defeated Kushida via Pinfall (One Final Beat DDT)

As Gargano made his entrance, accompanied by Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell, he noticed that Austin Theory was missing. He then sent LeRae and Hartwell in search of Theory. The match got under way and Gargano had no back up. Kushida went on the attack of Gargano’s left arm, the one Gargano claimed was broken. It was a strong effort by Kushida, but unfortunately it just wasn’t enough. If this match proved anything, it’s that Kushida should be in the title picture more often. An absolute classic match by the two men.

MSK defeated Grizzled Young Veterans via Pinfall

It’s been a hell of a NXT debut for MSK. They had a hell of a battle against the very determined GYV. Wes Lee and Nash Carter were able to put together innovative and insane offense to combat GYV’s toughness. Lee hit GYV with a tope con giro over the ring post! GYV did mount some good offense and had opportunities to finally win the Dusty Classic but it just wasn’t enough.

Io Shirai defeated Mercedes Martinez and Toni Storm via Pinfall to retain the NXT Women’s Championship

Shirai pulled it off yet again! Storm and Martinez were able to make the match one on one for a bit, by taking Shirai out of the equation. Because of this Storm and Martinez both had pin attempts where they were close to becoming the new champion. Shirai though was able to capitalize on a moonsault that broke up a pin attempt by Toni Storm.

Before the main event we saw LA Knight’s promo and arrival from the preshow. Then we saw him signing his NXT contract with William Regal.

Finn Balor defeated Pete Dunne via Pinfall to retain the NXT Championship (1916)

They put on a clinic. The match began with Dunne trying to get leverage over Balor’s previously injured left arm, but Balor evaded Dunne’s grasp. After a stalemate, Dunne was able to get Balor in a triangle choke hold. For most of the match the two traded off submission holds and mat grappling until once again Dunne had the upper hand. Dunne was finally able to use joint manipulation and hurt the champion. Balor though running seemingly on empty, mounted the comeback against the Bruiserweight. It took a Coup de Grace and 1916 to put away Dunne though. The match was a fantastic representation of NXT and wrestling.

As Finn Balor went to leave he was attacked from behind by Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan. They threw Balor back into the ring where Dunne he went back on the attack. Balor was outnumbered and getting his ass kicked until the Undisputed Era’s music hit.

As Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, and Kyle O’Reilly hit the ring Dunne and his crew fled. O’Reilly helped Balor up to his feet and it looked like Balor had some friends. As the four men posed together, Cole super kicked Balor! Strong and O’Reilly looked shocked!

Then in a turn of events, Cole super kicked O’Reilly! We ended NXT TakeOver with Cole walking away, Strong at a loss of what to do, while Balor and O’Reilly were laid out.
