Roman Reigns has a chance to recapture the Universal Championship. While we find out if Sasha Banks and Bayley really are on the same page.
PRESHOW
Riott Squad defeated The IIconics via Pinfall (Riott Kick)
Ruby Riott and Liv Morgan had to fight through a lot of mental obstacles and miscommunications to get this hard earned victory. The teamwork at the end with a double knee move from Morgan, into the Riott Kick was wonderful.
Main Card
A video package opened the show and featured Roman Reigns heavily.
During Bobby Lashley’s entrance we see a video from the Hurt Business that was filmed earlier in the day. In it, MVP told Apollo Crews that he got lucky at Summerslam. He then reminded everyone about the last time Crews met Bobby Lashley, where Lashley sent Crews home for a month. MVP then said Lashley would make Crews a permanent stay at home dad after tonight.
Bobby Lashley defeated Apollo Crews via Submission (Full Lashley)
And New! Lashley did not let the Hurt Business down. Crews did give a valiant effort and did seem to have the number of Lashley, Lashley is just a monster. He hit Lashley with a few Germans towards the end, but Lashley actually jumped up from the first! As Crews was trying to capitalize on the second suplex, Lashley hit him with a huge choke slam that spelled the end of Crews’ title reign.
After the match Crews attacked Lashley. MVP and Shelton Benjamin ran Crews off, but as Crews was leaving he said he would get his United States Championship back.
We got a replay of what happened with Roman Reigns on Friday Night Smackdown. Then backstage Kayla Braxton was shown outside of Reigns’ locker room.
Braxton stopped Paul Heyman before he walked into Reigns’ locker room. She asked if Reigns was his new client and how that came about. Heyman said he was missing Charly Caruso’s questions. Then he said he shouldn’t have to give a run down of his resume after all these years.
Then Braxton asked if Reigns would sign the contract. Of course Heyman said that Reigns already said he would and he had no reason to believe he’d lie. Then he told Braxton that is something she’d have to discuss with Reigns. When she tried to get in the locker room, Heyman told her no.
We then saw Keith Lee preparing for his match backstage when JBL showed up. JBL said he has enjoyed watching Keith so far and wants him to be prepared for the success to come. Then he handed Keith a piece of paper about hedge funds, saying Keith would need one million dollars to get in. After tonight though JBL said he could be well on his way to making that money, but not to get discouraged if he lost to Randy Orton….he’s one of the greatest after all.
A video of this past week’s Talking Smack featuring Big E was shown. Then during Sheamus’ entrance we got a promo that was filmed earlier in the day. Sheamus responded to Big E’s comments on Talking Smack. He said that people have been talking behind his back for years. While Sheamus knows people think Woods and Kofi are holding E back, he knows the truth. According to Sheamus they have been propping Big E up. Now is E’s time to fall.
Big E defeated Sheamus via Pinfall (Big Ending)
Are you paying attention? Big E hopes you are and you should be. E said after this victory that this is just the beginning. This was a competitive match up, but could serve to be important in the Smackdown title picture. Sheamus pinpointed one of E’s legs, but E was able to battle back and win.
After the match we went backstage where Matt Riddle was being interviewed. Riddle was asked how motivated he was to end the “king’s ransom” Corbin has going. He said that ever since he got to Smackdown Corbin has been harshing his vibe and he is done with it. Tonight Bro takes Corbin’s crown. A tweet Corbin posted was then brought up and Riddle became super serious and just left.
Then cameras went to Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax. Jax pointed out the obvious that the two don’t like each other, but said they had a real shot at winning the Women’s Tag Team Championships…if they followed her lead of course. Baszler on the other hand said they would win if Nia stays out of her way. Things got heated for a moment until they decided to kill the pre match chit chat.
Matt Riddle defeated King Corbin via Pinfall (Flying Bro)
Before the bell had even rung, Corbin attacked Riddle. This attack gave Corbin the advantage for a bit, but Riddle found a way to fight back. After a sleeper hold, Riddle seemed to be back in the match. Some tough kicks to Corbin, set Riddle up for victory.
Once Riddle got backstage, there was an attempt at an interview, but King Corbin stopped that. Corbin attacked Riddle. As much as Riddle wanted to be done with Corbin, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Before our next match, we saw a video about Bayley and Sasha Banks becoming the Golden Role Models.
Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax defeated Bayley and Sasha Banks via Submission
Things continue to get worse for the Golden Role Models, No Belts Banks and One Belt Bayley it is. Banks and Bayley did come into the match with a plan, to keep Nia Jax out of the match and it didn’t work. Banks and Bayley kept a bit of control over Baszler until Nia Jax got involved. Jax used Banks as a weapon! The end of the match showed us just how good Baszler can be as she had both Banks and Bayley in submission holds! Kirifuda Clutch and an Indian Deathlock! Baszler actually used Banks’ arm to make the submission stronger.
After the match Charly Caruso tried to interview the new Women’s Tag Team Champions. Nia Jax was just in celebration mode though and it was wonderful to see.
After the tag team match, we got a video about how Keith Lee versus Randy Orton came about.
Keith Lee defeated Randy Orton via Pinfall (Spirit Bomb)
Randy Orton may be the Legend Killer, but on this night the Limitless one prevailed. Lee brought it to Orton and the Legend Killer got frustrated pretty early on. Orton wanted respect and thought chopping Lee was the way to go, it wasn’t. Orton did get the upper hand for a bit, but a blocked RKO led to a Spirit Bomb and a pin!
After the match, Paul Heyman is once again interviewed. Heyman reiterated what Roman Reigns said on Smackdown. Believe that Reigns will leave as champion.
A video showing the history of Seth Rollins and the Mysterio family is then shown.
Dominik and Rey Mysterio defeated Seth Rollins and Murphy via Pinfall (Frog Splash)
Dominik was on top of things right out the gate! Seemed the Mysterio family had a plan and they executed it well. Rollins was flustered right away because things were not going as expected. The teamwork between Rey and Dominik was as good as one should have expected. Rollins put a lot of trust in Murphy and seemed to be extremely disappointed in his disciple.
After the match, father and son celebrated their victory. While Rollins left Murphy behind.
Backstage the Hurt Business was seen leaving to go celebrate Bobby Lashley’s United States Championship victory.
Commentary then told us Clash of Champions will be four weeks from today. Then we got a video of how we got to our Universal Championship match.
Roman Reigns defeated Braun Strowman and The Fiend via Pinfall (Spear)
He did what he said he would. Reigns did not come out at the beginning of the match, it actually began without him. Strowman and The Fiend went at it for a while, yes at one point Alexa Bliss was shown backstage watching the match. The Fiend found his mallet, that he did eventually use after gaining the upper hand again. When the action was brought back in the ring, a superplex happened BREAKING THE RING! This is when Roman Reigns picked his moment.
Reigns signed the contract at the entrance ramp and brought a chair to the ring with him. Taking advantage of the situation, Reigns delivered a low blow to the Fiend and a spear to Strowman.
Wreck Everyone And Leave.
