After being hit in the face with a fire gun last week, we will hear from Randy Orton. Also Alexa Bliss will be in action against Asuka.
RAW began with a video honoring Martin Luther King Jr.
After we were welcomed to the show and then heard from Randy Orton. Orton told us that after last week the voices in his head are louder than ever. When Orton showed us his face, he was wearing a mask to shield us from the horror of last week.
As for blaming Alexa Bliss, Orton said he didn’t but he did blame The Fiend. Then he brought up the Royal Rumble. Orton said that even though the rest of the locker room would probably love for him not to be able to compete, nothing will stop him from being in the Rumble.
Commentary than showed us a recap of what happened between Lacey Evans and Charlotte Flair last week. Then Charly Caruso ran into Evans and Ric Flair backstage. Evans didn’t let Flair speak on what is going on between them, she just chalked it up to learning from the legend.
Back at ringside Charlotte Flair made her entrance. Before Flair could make it to the ring, she was attacked by Peyton Royce. We went to commercial break as referees were trying to get the women separated.
Charlotte Flair defeated Peyton Royce via Submission (Figure Eight)
Royce actually began the match in control. The match had a good back and forth to it, that is until Ric Flair and Lacey Evans made their entrance. Evans was wearing one of Flair’s robes…it was odd. The presence of Flair and Evans only served to make Charlotte angry.
After being declared the winner, Charlotte did not let go of the Figure Eight.
Backstage The Hurt Business ran into Matt Riddle. They made fun of the way Riddle was dressed. Riddle on the other hand tried to give them compliments, but that didn’t go over well. Eventually Bobby Lashley sent the rest of The Hurt Business on their way and he just chatted with Riddle. After saying he liked Riddle’s flip flops, he stomped on Riddle’s foot!
Then we took another commercial break.
Back from break, Lucha House Party were checking on Riddle. They wanted to make sure he would be good for their tag team match against The Hurt Business later in the night.
Then we saw a video from Mustafa Ali on why Retribution is going after Xavier Woods. Ali said breaking Woods is all about getting to Kofi Kingston. He said he hopes Kingston’s injury keeps him from Wrestlemania so that Kingston can feel exactly how Ali did in 2019.
Back at ringside we got the entrances of Woods and Retribution. Before we went to commercial break, Woods punched Ali in the face!
Mace defeated Xavier Woods via Pinfall
Woods was able to hold his own against the much bigger Mace for a while, but with the rest of Retribution looming at ringside…Woods wasn’t able to keep up. Although he lost, Woods was able to get another shot in at Ali by kicking him in the face and causing him to land into the announcers table.
Asuka was then interviewed backstage, but during the interview a video of what happened between Randy Orton and Alexa Bliss was shown. Then we went to commercial break.
Returning from break, Alexa Bliss made her entrance. The ring was set up as her playground again. Bliss made a few comments on Randy Orton, before moving on to her opponent for the night in Asuka.
Asuka came out to the ring and attempted to sit on the other swing, but Bliss yelled at her not to. Bliss then spoke to the empty swing and asked if the imaginary person was okay. All the while Asuka seemed freaked out. Asuka tried to bring the fun back by dancing, but Bliss wasn’t having it. Then Asuka brought up how The Fiend is still around and Bliss lost it.
Shayna Baszler then cut a promo. She said she was going to beat Mandy Rose and then go on to win the Royal Rumble. Nia Jax did not seem to agree with her though and the two began to bicker. Then we took another commercial break.
When we returned from break we heard from Jeff Jarrett on Goldberg versus Drew McIntyre. Double J said he expected Goldberg to walk out of the Royal Rumble with the WWE Championship.
Shayna Baszler defeated Mandy Rose via Submission (Kirifuda Clutch)
Rose almost put Baszler away after a distraction from Dana Brooke, but Baszler was able to kick out. After that the match was mostly Baszler’s.
After the match, Baszler and Nia Jax began to argue again. This allowed for Dana Brooke to attack from behind. While Jax and Baszler were down, Brooke and Rose were able to make their get away.
When we returned from break Jax and Baszler were being interviewed. They said that they have never gotten along, even when they were the tag team champions. Baszler said that this would actually be the perfect time to ask for their rematch and then the team walked off.
Then Charlotte Flair was interviewed. She said that she has been accused her entire career about living off her family name. Flair said that Lacey Evans is the one trying to make a name for herself by using the Flair name.
Then in gorilla position, Adam Pearce was talking to Ricochet. Pearce told him that a win tonight would mean a lot in getting him into the Royal Rumble Match. Then AJ Styles and Omos walked up.
Styles made fun of Pearce for walking away from a Universal Championship match. This led to Ricochet making a 50 First Dates reference, by saying that Styles had selective amnesia. Then before going to commercial break Ricochet said he was going to show everyone why he deserves to be in the Royal Rumble.
AJ Styles defeated Ricochet via Pinfall (Styles Clash)
Ricochet was able to avoid the Styles Clash early on and in turn go on the offensive. But unfortunately for Ricochet Omos being a presence at ringside didn’t help. When Ricochet went for a dive on the outside, Omos caught him! The match was pretty fantastic, Ricochet was able to counter the Phenomenal Forearm into a Recoil. While Styles pulled off when of the coolest Styles Clash I’ve ever seen.
