This week’s RAW sees two championship matches! Sasha Banks will face Asuka to determine the rightful RAW Women’s Champion. While Drew McIntyre faces Dolph Ziggler.
We opened Monday Night RAW with the entrance of the Legend Killer Randy Orton. As Orton made his way to the ring, we got a recap of what happened in his unsanctioned match with Big Show last week.
After the recap, Orton is in the ring and talking over his many nicknames and accomplishments throughout his 20 year career. He moved on to mention Legacy, The Authority, and Evolution. Orton even brought up The Rock and Stone Cold, saying they can’t hold a candle to his accomplishments and longevity.
Orton said something is missing though and he has finally figured it out…he wants the WWE Championship. He said if he were to compare resumes with Drew McIntyre, well it would be a short conversation. Looking at the camera, Orton told McIntyre he had a problem and that problem is McIntyre having what Randy Orton wants. Orton then challenged McIntyre to a WWE Championship match at Summerslam.
After Orton was done and was on his way out, Nia Jax came out to the ring. Jax said she knows how Orton feels, she woke up today and wanted to be RAW Women’s Champion. Before Jax could lay out her challenge though, Shayna Baszler interrupted.
Baszler said no body gives a damn what Nia Jax wants. That comment earned Baszler a punch to the face from Jax and then all hell broke loose before a commercial break.
Back from commercial, the Street Profits are in the ring! Apparently the referees got the Jax and Baszler brawl under control. The Street Profits are in the ring to ring announce the next tag team match, which will determine who will face them at Summerslam.
Angel Garza and Andrade defeated The Viking Raiders, Ricochet, and Cedric Alexander via Pinfall (Wing Clipper)
A rather entertaining match, ended with Angel Garza getting the victory to send his team to Summerslam for a match against the RAW Tag Team Champions. All three teams had a good chance, but after Ivar took everyone out with a top rope dive, Garza took advantage.
After the match, Andrade and Angel Garza attacked the Street Profits before running off to join Zelina Vega at the top of the entrance ramp.
Before going to another commercial, Nia Jax was seen chatting with referee John Cone backstage.
Nia Jax versus Shayna Baszler ended in a Double Countout
Cone really didn’t have a choice here, as both women wound up outside the ring and just continued to brawl. Security was called and well, they did nothing but get beat up by Jax and Baszler.
After we got a recap of what has happened between Seth Rollins and the Mysterio Family. Backstage, Seth Rollins is seen with Murphy. Rollins asked Murphy if he was with him, as Murphy seemed a bit off. He then asked Rollins if he thought Dominick Mysterio was actually going to show up tonight. Rollins said yes, but that the greater good would prevail.
Coming back from a commercial, Mark Henry is seen backstage with Ruby Riott and Bianca Belair. Then we go to the ring to hear from Seth Rollins and Murphy.
Rollins began by saying he defeated the legend Rey Mysterio at Extreme Rules and defeated Aleister Black last week. The Monday Night Messiah has been on a roll! But for some reason Rollins is not in a great mood.
According to Rollins, when the greater good takes two steps forward there is always someone who gets in his way. Rollins then went through a list of people who have gotten hurt because they got in his way. He said he does not want to hurt people, that isn’t who the Monday Night Messiah is and he promises tonight will be different. Then Rollins called Dominick Mysterio to the ring.
Dominick hesitantly made his way down to the ring. It took some “reassurance” from Rollins to actually make it into the ring. Rollins tried to make nice with Dominick and told him he would be there for him. He then went to give Dominick a hug, but Dominick took him down.
Unfortunately for Dominick, he couldn’t keep up with the numbers game. Rollins and Murphy threw him into the barricades and the announcer’s table, before looking to the steel steps. Thankfully, Aleister Black made the save before anything could happen to Dominick.
Black though was not in good enough shape after last week to take on both Murphy and Rollins. Rollins, after a curb stomp to Black, yelled at Murphy “you know what you have to do” while looking towards the steel steps. It took words of encouragement from Rollins, but Murphy finally dragged Black to the steps and smashed Black’s eye in the corner.
When they went back for Dominick Mysterio, Dominick got a kendo stick and chased them off.
Mustafa Ali was backstage getting ready for his match when R-Truth showed up. Truth wanted to make sure Ali wasn’t going for the 24/7 Championship. Ali assured him that wouldn’t be the case, but Truth let him know he had his eyes on him….or rather Mufasa.
Returning from break, it was time for the VIP Lounge. MVP was joined in the ring by Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin. After some chat from MVP, he finally introduced Mustafa Ali as his guest.
Once Mustafa got to the ring, MVP welcomed him and told him he wanted him to experience a bit of the good life. MVP doesn’t want Mustafa to become a dissatisfied client of the Hurt Business. Mustafa really isn’t concerned and reminded MVP that the Hurt Business was defeated last week.
Mustafa went on to say how happy he is to be back and be on track to become a champion in the right way. He then let MVP know that he thinks for himself and doesn’t need MVP. MVP tried to explain to him that he could be living the good life if he joins them, but Mustafa isn’t having it.
R-Truth attempted to get his baby back by ambushing Shelton Benjamin during all this, but it didn’t work!
Bobby Lashley defeated Mustafa Ali via Submission (Full Nelson)
The match was thrown into a bit of chaos as Akira Tozawa tried to sneak up on Benjamin for the 24/7 championship during the match. Lashley and the rest of the Hurt Business took out Tozawa and his ninjas. Even with hitting Lashley with a surprise dive, Mustafa was not able to keep control of the match.
Dolph Ziggler was interviewed backstage. He said he still didn’t know what the stipulation would be for his match tonight, but he made it clear he would be winning tonight and would win at Summerslam too.
Back from commercial, we got another recap video. This time it was of Sasha Banks versus Asuka at Extreme Rules.
Then Sasha Banks and Bayley made their entrance to the ring. Banks said that no one likes a bully and that there is no bigger bully than Stephanie McMahon. Banks said that the reason Steph is making her defend the RAW Women’s Championship is because she is jealous.
Bayley then said no matter the night, they are the SHOW. Then once again, Bayley defended her actions at Extreme Rules. They remind everyone that they have done everything they said they would.
Asuka then made her entrance, with Kairi Sane by her side. After whispering in Asuka’s ear, Kairi chased Bayley to the back. Then? You guessed it, another commercial!
Sasha Banks defeated Asuka to become the RAW Women’s Champion via Countout
Banks tried everything to gain the upper hand, including trying to use the championships behind the refs back. Her trickery didn’t work, but Bayley beating up Kairi Sane in the back did. Bayley and Kairi’s brawl just happened to be on the tron and Asuka has too much heart, she didn’t want to watch her friend continue to get hurt. Asuka left the match to go save her friend and unfortunately got counted out…leaving the RAW Women’s Championship to Sasha Banks.
Charly Caruso was outside the trainer’s room and told us that Kairi Sane was being evaluated. Bayley and Sasha Banks interrupted yelling and cheering about Sasha’s victory. Asuka exited the trainers room, shortly after Banks and Bayley left, very passionate and emotional.
A tribute to Regis Philbin was shown.
Murphy defeated Humberto Carrillo via Pinfall (Murphy’s Law)
Carrillo started off the match quick, especially being gone for over a month, but it just wasn’t enough. He went for a move off the top rope, which Murphy stopped with a knee then hit Murphy’s Law.
After the match, a recap of Dolph Ziggler versus Drew McIntyre at Extreme Rules was shown.
Returning from commercial, Drew McIntyre made his entrance. McIntyre got the mic and said he would address Randy Orton before saying what the stipulation is for his match with Ziggler. He said it is official, Randy Orton versus Drew McIntyre at Summerslam. He hopes Orton is underestimating him, just like Brock Lesnar did.
Then Ziggler made his way to the ring. He is ready to know the stipulation. McIntyre said he was inspired by Ziggler picking an Extreme Rules match, but this time? McIntyre gets to enjoy the fun of extreme rules.
Drew McIntyre defeated Dolph Ziggler via Pinfall (Claymore Kick) to Retain the WWE Championship
McIntyre threw Ziggler all over the place, he broke the plexiglass at ringside! Of course Ziggler did find a way to get in his own shots, but it didn’t last long for him. Ziggler took advantage after delivering a low blow to McIntyre, but McIntyre regained control.
As McIntyre was celebrating his victory, Randy Orton delivered an RKO Outta Nowhere! And thats RAW folks!
