WWE SmackDown Live Results – 6th August 2019

Matty Deller runs down the results from last night’s edition of SmackDown Live.

On the final stop before SummerSlam, will we find out who has been trying to end Roman Reigns?

  • We open with Charlotte Flair making her way down to the ring, to talk about how great she is. She pointed out that when Trish Stratus left WWE, the business started changing, saying Stratus only came back because she can’t stand Flair’s success. She promised to shatter Stratus’ dreams before introducing a video package on her career highlights. Instead, the video highlighted Stratus’ career which annoyed Flair.
  • Trish Stratus interrupted and said she played that video to remind Flair why she has all these history-making opportunities. Stratus admitted she’s dreaming of one more match, quoting Harley Race by saying there’s no greater feeling than being under those bright lights. Charlotte welcomed Trish to her nightmare, before vowing to make her bow down to the queen. Stratus slapped Flair, only for Charlotte to laugh and walk off.
  • Dolph Ziggler came out to Goldberg’s entrance and attacked Rey Mysterio at ringside before their scheduled match. He dropped Rey with a superkick and said he’s sick of all these legends. Ziggler mocked Goldberg and said he’s not next, but this will be Goldberg’s last match. Ali then made the save for Mysterio.
  • Dolph Ziggler defeated Rey Mysterio via pinfall.
  • We then see footage from earlier today of Roman Reigns sitting down with Kayla Braxton to discuss the recent attacks he’s suffered. Kayla asked how he’s keeping it together and he noted he’s dealt with many problems, but this time he doesn’t know who the attacker is. Reigns said WWE offered him personal security, but he doesn’t need it. Kayla asked who he thought the attacker might be, Roman replied that he knows it’s not Samoa Joe and apologized to him for accusing him of being the attacker. He vowed to get answers by the end of the night.
  • Ember Moon and Natalya went to a double count-out when Natalya put the sharpshooter on Moon on the outside. Bayley ran down to break it up and help Moon, but Ember pushed her away.
  • Kevin Owens came down to the ring for The Kevin Owens Show and demanded Shane McMahon comes down to the ring right now. Greg Hamilton tried to do McMahon’s ring intro, but Owens took the mic away. Owens said that fans keep asking him why Shane’s career isn’t also on the line at SummerSlam and noted that because of his last name, Shane can do and say whatever he wants. Owens pointed out that the McMahon’s promised to give the fans whatever they wanted and demanded he put his career on the line as well. Shane refused, saying Owens was the one who offered to put his career on the line and there’s no shame in losing to the best in the world. Shane went over all the ways he can beat Owens, and Kevin said Shane just showed everyone he has no balls.
  • They clear the ring, not wanting to wait until SummerSlam but Elias jumped Owens from behind. Kevin fought him off, went after Shane but Elias attacked again. Owens fought back, hitting a stunner on Elias on the announce table. McMahon pulled Owens off the table, tipped the table onto him and dropkicked a steel chair into his face, leaving him laying.
  • Sami Zayn came down to the ring and said he issued a challenge to Aleister Black for a match at SummerSlam, but he hides in the back claiming Black is terrified of him.
  • Aleister Black interrupted and during his entrance and said that this match isn’t happening at SummerSlam, it’s happening right now.
  • Aleister Black defeated Sami Zayn via pinfall.
  • Backstage, Shelton Benjamin was asked if he will challenge for the 24/7 Championship. He looked around, said well, and then walked off.
  • We got another edition of FireFly Funhouse. Wyatt spoke of his opponent for SummerSlamFinn Bálor, saying he isn’t scared of anything. Wyatt said it’s to cover up for his insecurities, adding that Bálor invited The Fiend to his doorstep. Wyatt concluded by saying The Fiend is coming for Bálor.
  • Backstage, Chad Gable was stretching when Elias interrupted. Elias told the “kid” to take his bands, mocked Gable for his small size and walked off.
  • We had another backstage interview, this time with WWE Champion Kofi Kingston. He spoke of his 2009 feud with Randy Orton, saying he felt like he had momentum only for there to be no happy ending. Kingston spoke about hearing rumours that Orton held him down, interspersed with clips of Orton calling Kofi stupid in-ring, and later Kofi’s trip to Ghana as WWE Champion. Kingston says he uses his power as WWE Champion to uplift people while Orton uses his power to hold down people. He says that at SummerSlam when he wins and holds the belt up, we’ll see who the stupid one is.
  • The New Day defeated Daniel Bryan & Rowan via disqualification.
  • Backstage, Roman Reigns march into the locker room and told everyone to leave except Buddy Murphy, saying he saw the footage and knew Murphy was in the hallway last week. He accused Murphy of either attacking him or knowing who did it, but Murphy said he doesn’t know who it is but wouldn’t tell Reigns anyway. Reigns threw Buddy around the room in a rage until Murphy told him that he saw Rowan. Reigns asked if it was Daniel Bryan and Rowan, but Murphy only saw Rowan. We cut back to a proud Rowan, with Bryan just standing there to close.
