WWE SmackDown Live Results – July 23rd, 2019

Daniel McIver runs down the results from last night’s episode of SmackDown Live.

Shane McMahon returns to Tuesday nights to answer the pair of stunners he received from Kevin Owens last week. How will the boss try and stop K.O?

  • Corey Graves and Byron Saxton miss tonight’s show and are replaced by David Otunga. Corey Graves is missing for a un-released reason and Byron Saxton is missing due to the death of his father last week.
  • Shane McMahon opens the show and accepts Kevin Owens’ challenge at Summerslam with the stipulation that, if Owens loses, he has to quit WWE. Owens interrupts and states he’s going to beat Shane in his home country on August 11th. The segment ends with Shane setting up Owens vs Roman Reigns tonight.
  • Backstage, Elias and Drew are made special guest timekeeper and referee respectfully.
  • MEN’S SINGLES MATCH– Apollo Crews vs Shinsuke Nakamura. MATCH RESULT- Nakamura wins via pinfall.
  • Post-match; Nakamura attacks Crews.
  • Backstage; Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville say that they’re getting a match against The Iiconics next week which, if they win, they get a Woman’s Tag Title shot.
  • Ali cuts another promo in his pre-recorded style.
  • Miz TV begins with Shawn Michaels as the special guest. Michaels hypes up the RAW Reunion and Seth Rollins for his match against Brock Lesnar. Dolph Ziggler interrupts and calls out Michaels and the other legends for coming back and calls the tag match Shawn returned to ‘embarrassing’. Shawn agrees but calls Dolph’s entire career an embarrassment as he is known as a ‘second-rate Shawn Michaels’. Miz states that Dolph needs to ‘do something’ about his complaining. Dolph then lays out Shawn with a super-kick to close the segment.
  • WOMAN’S SINGLES MATCH- Charlotte vs Ember Moon. MATCH RESULT- Moon wins via rollup after Bayley distracts Charlotte in about 30 seconds.
  • Post-match, Moon hits both Charlotte and Bayley with Eclipses’.
  • Kofi Kingston comes out to announce who he will face at Summerslam for the WWE Championship. He calls out Randy Orton who comes down to the ring. Kingston references the fact that Orton used his ‘influence’ backstage to prevent Kofi reaching the main event level. Randy states he did because he wasn’t ready then and isn’t ready now. Randy Orton didn’t need to ‘work hard’ due to his name and, because he injured Ali, the Viper is the only reason Kofi is the WWE Champion.
  • Randy Orton vs Kofi Kingston for the WWE Heavyweight Championship is confirmed for SummerSlam.
  • As Orton leaves, Joe comes out and squares up to Kofi. Orton then returns to stay at ringside for the match.
  • MEN’S SINGLES MATCH– Samoa Joe vs Kofi Kingston. MATCH RESULT– Kingston wins via DQ after Orton attempts an RKO but fails.
  • Post-match, Orton hits Joe with an RKO but turns into a Trouble in Paradise to close the segment.
  • Finn Balor comes to the ring and is interviewed about the attack he sustained at the hands of ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt two weeks ago on RAW. He challenges ‘The Fiend’ to a match at Summerslam. Bray Wyatt, in his ‘FireFly FunHouse’ persona, accepts on behalf of ‘The Fiend’.
  • We get a recap of all the 24/7 shenanigans from last night’s RAW.
  • Backstage, Charlotte demands to be at SummerSlam.
  • MEN’S SINGLES MATCH– Roman Reigns vs Kevin Owens w/ Drew McIntyre as the special guest referee, Elias as the special guest timekeeper and Shane McMahon as the special guest announcer. MATCH RESULT- The match doesn’t properly start.
