The Smackdown Tag Team Championships are on the line when the New Day take on Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura.
The show opened with Michael Cole and Corey Graves informing us of matches to expect tonight. Then we went to the ring, where Miz and Morrison were ready to host Miz TV.
Their guest tonight was Jeff Hardy. After Hardy made his way to the ring, Miz and Morrison asked about showing a clip. Hardy seemed confused at first, but said to roll it. The clip of course showed back everything Hardy has been through in his feud with Sheamus.
It seemed like Miz and Morrison brought Hardy on just to mock him or try to get him to slip up. Miz said that his daughter’s favorite wrestler happens to be Hardy, but he doesn’t want her to be let down when Hardy “inevitably” relapses again. Hardy asked if there was a question he wanted to ask; Miz simply asked if he was okay.
Hardy said he has been to hell and back throughout his addiction, but the taunts from Sheamus aren’t enough to send him back to those dark places. While losing to Sheamus was rough, Hardy said he would have to dig down deep to destroy Sheamus. He is also out to prove that change is possible and hope is real.
Miz said that he believed Hardy needs redemption against Sheamus and that it needs to come on “home turf,” in a bar fight. Hardy said that, that would be like a handicap match but he was down for it. Since people were throwing about challenges, Hardy challenged Miz and Morrison to decide who would face him in a match.
A brawl broke out before commercial, with Hardy gaining the advantage.
Jeff Hardy defeated The Miz via Pinfall (Rollup)
Although, Miz wound up being in control for most of the match (with Morrison’s help), Hardy was not about to let people down again. Even an interruption from Sheamus, enjoying a pint, on the tron couldn’t gain Miz the victory.
After the match we went backstage were Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura were interviewed. They were asked about if they won tonight would it be another upset. Cesaro and Nakamura didn’t take that kindly because they have been undefeated against the New Day.
Cesaro said he has been sick of the New Day and their horns, pancakes etc for a long time. He said that everything would change after tonight though, when they become the new tag team champions.
We got the entrances of Sasha Banks and Bayley, who was attacked from behind by Nikki Cross, before another commercial.
Bayley and Sasha Banks defeated Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss via Pinfall (Folding Press)
Nikki and Bliss seemed to be having a lot of fun in this one, at least at the beginning of the match. Nikki distracted Bayley and Sasha when she danced around with the Smackdown Women’s Championship. This allowed Bliss to take out both Bayley and Sasha, but unfortunately their luck didn’t last long. The end of the match saw Nikki focusing on taking out Sasha instead of focusing on the legal woman, Bayley.
A replay of Bray Wyatt versus Braun Strowman from Money In The Bank is shown. Yes, from May. Yes, when Strowman defeated Wyatt when he used the sheep mask as a sort of distraction.
After the match replay, the New Day were interviewed backstage. Kofi said for six years they have been telling the same story and they aren’t underestimating their opponents. Kofi and Big E said they have known who Cesaro and Nakamura are. Big E said they would march on to ensure they stay the tag team champions.
Then we see Naomi and Lacey Evans preparing for….karaoke showdown.
Jey Uso is our host for karaoke. He let us know that each woman will be performing 45 seconds of a WWE theme song.
Naomi won Karaoke Showdown defeating Dana Brooke, Lacey Evans, and Tamina
Lacey started us off with a rendition of With My Baby Tonight and was pretty decent. Dana Brooke attempted to sing the Honky Tonk Man’s theme, but Jey didn’t let her finish…it was bad. Tamina started The Game, but again Jey cut her off. Naomi sang American Dream, for Dusty Rhodes of course, and it was great.
After the crowd declared Naomi the winner, Lacey Evans was less than thrilled. Evans went to attack Naomi. We took another commercial break as Jey Uso was trying to break the ladies apart.
Naomi versus Lacey Evans ended in a No Contest
The match started off quick with Lacey shoving Naomi right off the bat. Lacey kept control for a bit, even using her dress as a weapon. Naomi though was able to get in a few good kicks, one of which sent Lacey to the outside. On the outside, Dana Brooke tried to have a word with Lacey and well that ended with shoving.
Dana Brooke and Tamina followed Lacey back into the ring, which led to a brawl.
Backstage AJ Styles was interviewed. Styles said last week he embarrassed Drew Gulak. He said that the level of competition is a waste of his time, as there is no one worthy of stepping into the ring with him. Then Styles is informed that he will be defending the Intercontinental Championship against Matt Riddle next week.
The New Day versus Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura ends in a Double DQ
The match started off with Cesaro and Nakamura in full control of Kofi, quick covers and quick tags. Kofi was able to get a breather and tag in Big E to start the Unicorn Stomp. Eventually the match just got out of control to the point where no one was listening to the ref anymore, which was cause for the bell.
We ended Smackdown with a brawl between the two tag teams. Cesaro set up a table in the ring and, with the help of Nakamura, powerbombed Kofi through the table where Big E was already laying.
Cesaro and Nakamura held up the tag team titles as the show ended.
