The 1200th episode of WWE SmackDown took place at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The night was full of action, promos and loud pops. No fancy pyro or stars from the past were needed on this memorable night as the buildup towards Clash at the Castle paved the way for yet another great taping of SmackDown. Both main shows continue to rotate wrestlers but fans still got to see top stars like Bayley, Drew McIntyre, Ronda Rousey and the hometown fan favorite, Sami Zayn.

The fans were largely engaged with the wrestlers for the entirety of the show from the get go. The backstage shot showing Reigns pulling up to the arena got a huge reaction, but that energy would hold up for the remainder of the two hours. The whole Zayn/Bloodline story has been absolutely brilliant. The interaction between the WWE Universal champion, Reigns and Sami was hilarious without either of the two men doing anything out of the ordinary for the crowd to react. The phone interaction with Jey Uso and Zayn was another funny moment when Zayn told Reigns that The Uso’s wouldn’t be there because of “border issues”, which was a reference to The Uso’s DUI troubles from the past.

The fatal 5-way match was a terrific showcase on the blue brand that featured Sheamus, Madcap Moss, Ricochet, Happy Corbin and Sami Zayn. All five athletes battled it out for a chance to become the number one contender for a Intercontinental Title match against Gunther, at Clash at the Castle. This will also be the first time in 17 months that the Intercontinental Title will be defended on a premium event since WrestleMania 37. The match got more than enough time for all five wrestlers to shine, but Zayn set the bar high once his music hit with the crowd erupting into cheers and Ole ole ole chants.

While it may not have been Zayn’s night with his hand raised high as the victor, the crowd soaked up every minute of the action with Zayn in the match. The crowd booed when he had left to the back holding his shoulder, but Zayn would later return towards the end of the match to more cheers. Michael Cole even mentioned El Generico on commentary. It was a fun night of wrestling as the Triple H era continues to grow at a rapid pace. Once SmackDown went off the air, another hometown hero, Kevin Owens came out to a strong ovation from the Montreal crowd in a very entertaining segment to send the crowd home happy. The videos in the thread were shared by a fan who attended the show.
